Dog appeared to fall through ice into river at off-leash dog park
Fire crews worked quickly Wednesday to rescue a dog from the freezing South Saskatchewan River.
The dog was spotted in the water near the Sutherland Beach dog park mid-morning.
The fire department's water rescue unit, police and other rescue personnel were on the scene.
The dog was clinging to the edge of the ice that still covered much of the east side of the riverbank.
He was eventually rescued by a lone firefighter who appeared to be wearing a protective suit.
The dog appeared unharmed.
