Saskatoon fire crews worked quickly to rescue a (cold) canine from the freezing South Saskatchewan River late Wednesday morning.

The fire department's water rescue unit, police and other rescue personnel were on the scene.

The dog was clinging to the edge of the ice that still covered much of the east side of the riverbank.

He was eventually rescued by a lone firefighter who appeared to be wearing a protective suit.

The dog appeared unharmed.
