A third case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at St. Joseph High School in Saskatoon.

A release from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools says the Saskatchewan Health Authority informed the division of the case on Friday evening.

Parents and caregivers have been informed and contact tracing is underway, but the risk of exposure to anyone who is not a close contact remains low, the release says.

In-person classes will continue as planned.

This is the third case to be confirmed at the high school; the first case was reported on Oct. 21 and the second on Oct. 24.

The release also notes that social behaviour outside of school affects COVID-19 cases in schools, and lists some of the measures students and parents should be following.

Derrick Kunz, communications consultant with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, said the division wants to underline the messages from the province's chief medical health officer.

"We see cases rising and they're not happening in schools," Kunz said. "We have to be conscious that we're still in a pandemic and that's the intent of that statement — nothing is isolated."

Students are required to take a daily health screening and to stay home if they are feeling ill.
