Comedian Steve Martin borrows Group of Seven painting from Saskatoon's Mendel Art Gallery

Comedian Steve Martin used twitter to thank Saskatoon and the Mendel Art Gallery for loaning a Lawren Harris painting from its permanent collection.

Exhibition opens at Los Angeles art gallery this weekend

It's a wild and crazy connection.

Steve Martin – actor, musician, comedian – is also an art lover. Specifically, the work of Lawren Harris, a member of the Canadian Group of Seven.

Martin is curating an exhibition of Harris paintings at the Hammer Gallery in Los Angeles, opening this weekend. He spoke about his love of Harris, and the exhibit, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times .

The Saskatoon connection?

The Mendel Art Gallery has a Harris painting in its permanent collection. Martin approached the gallery about borrowing the painting for the exhibition.

On Wednesday, he tweeted out his thanks to the city.

In related news, Martin's play, Picasso at the Lapin Agile is being performed at the University of Saskatchewan's Greystone Theatre from October 7-17.
