City of Saskatoon launching online survey looking at lowering residential speed limits
Council considering dropping speed limits to 30 or 40 km/h in certain areas
People in Saskatoon will soon have their say about how fast people should be able to drive through residential neighbourhoods.
On Tuesday, an online survey was launched to ask the public whether the speed limit should be changed in areas that have high concentrations of children and the elderly.
Over the years, the city says it has heard from citizens concerned about vehicle speeds and pedestrian safety.
According to a report from council, speed limits could be reduced to 30 km/h or 40 km/h on some residential streets, depending on their classification.
The report expects a report on the survey to come back before councillors in June. After that, decision reports on school zones and residential streets will be debated starting in September.
Any new rules wouldn't be implemented until next year.
