Administration notes ongoing delays around Montgomery Place neighbourhood

The City of Saskatoon says rail lines continue to create major delays on Saskatoon streets.

A special steering committee, made up of representatives from the Saskatoon Fire Department, city administrators and representatives from the Canadian Pacific (CP) and Canadian National (CN) Railways has been formed to deal with the issue.

The city says trains are still causing delays, especially near the Montgomery Place neighbourhood.

Train delays around Montgomery have become a major concern, as trains can cut off the south-west neighbourhood from fire trucks and other emergency services.

The city has asked for data for train traffic at rail crossings across Saskatoon, but has not received it yet.

Once that happens, the city will use the information to get funding from the provincial and federal governments to separate crossings throughout the city.
