Fall session gets underway at Sask. Legislative Building
GTH, carbon tax, funding cuts among key issues
The carbon tax issue, the Global Transportation Hub land deal and drinking and driving are expected to be high on the agenda when the fall legislative session begins on Wednesday.
While the government used the day before the session to announce its new climate change plan, the Official Opposition held a news conference outlining its fall focus.
NDP speaks pre-session
NDP interim leader Trent Wotherspoon said his party planned to pressure the government with questions about the GTH land deal, funding cuts to social services and transparency.
"We're sure thankful to have the chance to take this government to task face to face in the legislative assembly, to stand up for Saskatchewan people all across our province," he said.
He lashed out at the government over its stance on the carbon tax issue, claiming it has given up Saskatchewan's voice in Ottawa.
Government outlines issues
Premier Brad Wall also spoke at a media event on Tuesday, announcing a climate change plan at a Regina and District Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
The government offered its pre-session comments in an emailed statement.
"Our government will continue to fight against any carbon tax being imposed on Saskatchewan over the coming weeks and months," the statement read.
"Early in the session you will also see further measures taken to discourage drinking and driving in our province."
The government said it would also provide an update on its finances in November.
There will be no throne speech to open the first day of the fall session, which runs until Nov. 30.
