Man, 70, dead following multi-vehicle crash on Circle Drive in Saskatoon
Charges are pending against a 17-year-old driver
Traffic is once again moving on Circle Drive North after a fatal crash claimed the life of a 70-year-old man near the 108th Street exit on Wednesday.
Police said the crash happened at around 1:25 p.m. CST on Sept. 7 and involved at least three vehicles.
According to the fire department, of the two passenger cars involved in the crash, each was occupied by a lone male driver.
"A vehicle crossed the ditch – I don't know why; I don't know what surrounded that. But it somehow got across the ditch," said Dave Bykowy with the Saskatoon Fire Department. "The car was driving in the northbound lanes and it crossed into the southbound lanes."
Police added they believe the northbound vehicle lost control before it crossed the ditch.
Rescue crews used hydraulic cutters, spreaders and rams to get one driver out of the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver, an 17-year-old man, was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said the teen is in custody and charges of dangerous driving causing death and breach of probation are pending.
Police said debris from the collision was spread over both sides of Circle Drive.
We are likely in a criminal investigation; preservation of evidence is extremely imp to finding answers. Please be patient #yxetraffic
