Record-breaking weather in Regina
Regina reaches 16.9 C, surpassing old record of 16 C in 1987
The winter of 2015-2016 is turning out to be one of the mildest in memory as temperatures in parts of the province reached highs not seen in decades.
Golfers were hitting practice balls at the Paisley driving range in Regina Saturday as the city reached a new high temperature for March 5 of 16.9 C. The previous record, 16 C, was set in 1987.
Co-owner of the driving range, Bill Paisley, said the winter has been so mild they were able to open a week ago.
"[It's] unbelievable," Paisley said, who said if it turns cold he may have to close again.
"It depends on the weather," he said, but he is optimistic. "If it gets to be lows of minus 10 or 15 and highs below zero we'll probably be closed but the rest of the week looks pretty good."
Paisley said that last year he opened the driving range on March 14.
