U of S medical schools on probation
University president says restructuring medical college a critical priority
The group that licenses medical schools has placed the University of Saskatchewan's medical college on probation.
The official status is "Accreditation with Probation," meaning the school will remain accredited.
Ilene Busch-Vishniac, University of Saskatchewan president, said in a new release that restructuring the medical college remains a critical priority.
“Over the last year it has become abundantly clear to us that the problems we face in the college are structural, not a result of insufficient funding,” Busch-Vishniac said. “The College of Medicine was founded 60 years ago on a model that simply does not work for our medical school today.”
The college has been dealing with problems recently when it comes to complying with standards required for accreditation. In July of 2011, the college was placed on warning of probation.
A letter with more details about the probation decision is expected in the next few weeks.
