A volunteer driver for Grey Cup in Regina was given an assignment Sunday that led to a fun brush with celebrity Tom Hanks who was at the game with Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan and fellow actor Martin Short.

Rod Lederhouse, who is the father of Craig Lederhouse, of CBC Saskatchewan's Afternoon Edition, was a driver for VIPs during Grey Cup.

In an interview with his son Monday, Lederhouse explained how he was directed to make a pick up at Mosaic Stadium.

It turned out his passenger was Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks.

"He was awesome," Lederhouse recalled. "He introduced himself. He talked about how great Saskatchewan fans were. He's a Hamilton fan [but] he put on his green hat realizing that Rider Nation got the best of him."

Lederhouse said the actor was affable and easy to chat with.

"He's very personable," Lederhouse said. "He asked about Regina, getting around. It seems easy to get around. The size of the city. How large we were and if it's the biggest city in Saskatchewan."
