1st Saskatchewan rainbow crosswalk installed in Swift Current
Crosswalk is on the 200 block of Central Avenue in Swift Current
Saskatchewan's first permanent rainbow crosswalk has been installed in Swift Current as part of Pride Week in the southwestern city.
The crosswalk, located in the 200 block of Central Avenue, serves as symbolic representation for LGBT community members within the city and for those who visit, do business or travel in and around Swift Current.
"It's an important moment in history, that a small city in Saskatchewan was the first to install a Rainbow Crosswalk," said Andrea McCrimmon, chair of southwest Saskatchewan Pride, in a press release.
"It very much speaks to the inclusive attitudes of our city, and it makes our community stronger."
The first permanent rainbow crosswalk in Canada was installed in Vancouver back in 2013.
Swift Current Pride Week activities include a barbecue and pride march in Market Square on June 3.
The city's Pride Week begins May 28 and ends June 3.
