Star Trek actress Marina Sirtis is coming to Regina this weekend for Fan Expo 2014, a convention that's expected to attract thousands who love sci-fi, fantasy and comics.

"This is the opportunity for the fans to meet their favourite people ... have a little chat, get some autographs — gaming and comics, everything," Sirtis told the Morning Editions' Sheila Coles on Friday. "It's just a lot of fun."

As all Trekkies know, for seven years Sirtis played counsellor Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The character also appeared in four Star Trek movies.

She said she regularly appears at Star Trek conventions and sometimes has people tell her: "You were my first TV crush."

"It's something I never envisioned in my youth," she said in a telephone interview. "I love it."

Sirtis asked what the weather was like in Regina as she prepared to get on a plane in California. Coles told her it snowed on Monday,

"Oh Lord," Sirtis replied.

She was reassured to hear the snow had melted, however.

Fan Expo runs May 3 and 4 at the Canada Centre East building in Evraz Place.
