Sponsored by the provincial government and hosted by Chief Poundmaker School, the inaugural event takes place at the Don Ross Centre.

Some 140 students from 20 Saskatchewan First Nations schools are expected to participate.

The First Nations Provincial Spelling bee will have three age categories: six to eight, 9 to 11, and 12 to 14.

First-place finishers in each category will go on to the Spelling Bee of Canada national event in Toronto on May 15.
