Sex offender gets 15-year prison sentence
A Saskatoon man guilty of series of violent sexual assaults has been given a 15-year prison sentence.
Kelly Roger Furi's brutal attacks on women began in 2000 when he attacked a 16-year-old girl in a back alley.
Two years later, he struck again, sexually assaulting and beating a woman.
The series of crimes ended in January 2003, when Furi beat, sexually assaulted, and stabbed a victim.
Furi pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday.
The judge also ordered that he be closely supervised for 10 years after his release.
"We have control over Mr. Furi for 25 years as of today," prosecutor Robin Ritter said following court.
Furi's lawyer Robert Borden says his client is also satisfied with the sentence.
"He has not instructed me to appeal. We believe that this is a reasonable and just sentence."
Outside the court, some of the victims expressed relief that Furi will be locked up.
One victim's mother told reporters the sentence provides some closure.
"It's been extremely difficult for my daughter," she said. "The nightmares, the self-esteem issues and being scared. Hopefully now she can move forward."
