More babies are being born to teen mothers in Saskatchewan, per capita, than in any other province, a Statistics Canada report says.
According to numbers released Wednesday by the federal statistics agency, births to mothers between 15 and 19 accounted for 6.8 per cent of all live births in 2013.
That's higher than the rate in any other province. While Manitoba's rate is close (6.6 per cent), Alberta's (3.4 per cent) is only half that of Saskatchewan's.
There were 1,009 babies born to Saskatchewan mothers between 15 and 19 in 2013. Another seven babies were born to mothers under 15. There were 14,798 live births in the province that year, StatsCan says.
Meanwhile, Quebec has the lowest teen birth rate in Canada: 2.1 per cent.
