Saskatchewan out of Brier playoff contention

With a 10–6 loss to Newfoundland and Labrador Wednesday morning, Team Saskatchewan is out of playoff contention at the Brier.

Brier teams usually need a record of six wins and five losses or better to have a shot at a playoff spot, but the loss puts the team from the Battlefords at the bottom of the standings, tied with Quebec at 2–6.

Skip Scott Manners said after the game that he's still proud of how the team played.

"You know, we just keep getting better as we go. I can't ask them for more than that," he said. "Everybody's giving me 100%, everybody. So we're going to stand in there, right through."

Manners, third Tyler Lang, second Ryan Deis and lead Mike Armstrong were able to stick close to Brad Gushue's team through the entire game, matching him point-for-point, and even stealing one in the seventh end.

The two teams went into the 10th end tied at 6–6, but the Newfoundland and Labrador skip tapped the lone Saskatchewan rock in the house on his last shot, for four points.

Alberta and Ontario are tied at the top of the pack, with seven wins and one loss each.
