Saskatchewan cat still fat

Saskatchewan's best-known tubby tabby is having trouble shedding pounds.

Saskatchewan's best-known tubby tabby is having trouble shedding pounds.

The feline known as Fat Boy became a media darling last year, following a flurry of news stories about his eating habits at the Moose Jaw Humane Society, where he's been in residence since 2006.

The cat had a bad habit of scarfing down food from other cats' bowls and by the summer of 2011, had ballooned to more than 23 pounds (10.1 kilograms).

Humane Society workers put him on a diet, hoping he could slim down to 14 pounds (6.4 kilograms).

As his fame grew, a Facebook page was regularly updated so people could follow his progress.

However, as dieters all over the globe have discovered, getting slim isn't easy.

"Fat Boy has plateaued at 20 pounds (9.1 kilograms)," a recent update on the page said.

Many commenters have sympathized with his plight, although one noted the stripes he wears are "not figure-flattering."
