Saskatchewan has the highest rate of police-reported family violence among all Canadian provinces, a new Statistics Canada report says.
The report released Thursday said in 2013 there were 489 cases (per 100,000 people) of family violence reported to Saskatchewan police.
Manitoba was second, with 328. Prince Edward Island had the lowest rate: 196.
While Saskatchewan had the highest family violence rate among provinces, the rates in the territories were even higher, StatsCan said.
The report also notes that almost 70 per cent of all family violence victims in 2013 were female.
