Sask. teachers on strike for 2 days next week
Teachers across the province will be on strike for two days next week.
Teachers have been informed by the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation that they will be off the job Wednesday and Thursday.
Because of the Victoria Day holiday, that means one day back at school — Tuesday — before the walkout.
Contract talks broke off Thursday between the teachers' union and the provincial government-trustees bargaining committee.
Both groups say the other side is bargaining in bad faith.
Teachers say the employer, with a 6 per cent offer over three years, isn't giving them enough.
The government says the teachers are asking for too much — 16 per cent over three years.
STF officials said all professional and voluntary services will be withdrawn for a 48 hour period starting on May 25.
Next week's job action will be the second mass walkout this month.
On May 5, all teachers walked off the job for a day.
The union represents about 12,000 members.
