Saskatchewan Roughriders part ways with Khalif Mitchell

Not even two weeks after adding Khalif Mitchell to their practice roster, the Saskatchewan Roughriders say they've parted ways with the defensive lineman.

Head coach Chris Jones says the decision was mutual due to a lack of recent play time

Khalif Mitchell had his first practice as a Roughrider on Aug. 31, 2016.

Not even two weeks after adding Khalif Mitchell to their practice roster, the Saskatchewan Roughriders say they've parted ways with the defensive lineman.

The announcement came in a press release Monday, where head coach Chris Jones said the decision was mutual.

"After sitting out for over a year we both agreed it would be difficult for Khalif to get physically ready to play in a professional football game at this point in the season," said Jones.

Mitchell was added to the Riders' practice roster in August.

The team was heavily criticized after the addition, due to a number of controversial social media posts Mitchell had made in the past, including a link to a Holocaust denial video.

Mitchell had apologized for the posts and was eventually released from the Montreal Alouettes, which he was a member of at the time.

After Mitchell signed with the Roughriders, the team and the league said it would be monitoring his social media presence.
