A 63-year-old man has died after an ATV accident on a rural road last week.

On Wednesday, Alan Gaetz was driving down a gravel road near Kendal, Sask., when he lost control and was thrown from the ATV.

Alcohol was not involved, although it appears Gaetz was not wearing a helmet, said John Meed, general manager of the Saskatchewan All-Terrain Vehicle Association.

This is the province's first death from an ATV accident this year.

"It kind of takes the wind out of your sails," said Meed. "We thought we were on a good roll."

Last year, three people died in quadding accidents in the province. In 2015, nine people were killed.

Gaetz's funeral will be held on Wednesday.

Kendal is located 80 kilometres southeast of Regina.
