Roughriders add former Calgary receiver Jeff Fuller, release Kendial Lawrence
Fuller spent three seasons with the Stampeders before heading to the NFL
They may be on a bye week, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders front office isn't taking any time off.
On Saturday, the Riders signed American wide receiver Jeff Fuller.
At six feet four inches tall and 223 pounds, Fuller is a big, strong target who spent three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders from 2013 to 2015. He was also a member of the 2014 Grey Cup championship team.
"Jeff brings a valued combination of size and speed that will compliment our receiver group," Riders general manager and head coach Chris Jones said. "His ability to play inside or out not only provides us depth, but can allow us to be flexible and unpredictable in how we lineup."
Following his best statistical season in the CFL in 2015 – 47 catches, 619 receiving yards, three touchdowns – Fuller signed with the NFL's Seattle Seahawks in February.
Riders release Kendial Lawrence
A player who was expected by many to be a star free agent acquisition months ago was let go this morning.
Saskatchewan announced Saturday they had released running back/kick returner Kendial Lawrence. He missed the last game against Hamilton because of a personal matter.
Lawrence appeared in 11 games with the Riders in 2016. He caught 17 passes for 129 yards, while also rushing 37 times for 150 yards and one touchdown.
Lawrence's most memorable moment in Green and White came on Labour Day when he took a punt return 85 yards for the game-tying touchdown with less than a minute left.
The Riders signed the 25 year old in February. He previously spent two seasons with Edmonton.
