Roughriders QB Darian Durant to update media about injury Monday
Injured QB is expected to update reporters on his season-ending Achilles injury
It's been a little over four months since the Roughriders star quarterback Darian Durant was carted off the field after he sustained a season-ending Achilles injury. Now, he's holding a media conference to share an update on his progress.
The team issued a release Sunday with few details about the update. It says Durant will be discussing his progress in recovering from the major injury he sustained during the team's regular season home opener against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in June.
It's the second season in a row that Durant was injured and unable to complete the regular season.
Last year, the team brought veteran Kerry Joseph back onto the team to pitch in with quarterback duties while Durant was out with an injured arm in September.
Dismal season follows Durant's injury
This season has become a series of unfortunate events for Rider fans since Durant's early exit in the home opener.
A lot has happened since the quarterback was first sidelined on June 26:
- The Riders lost the opening game against Winnipeg after Durant was hurt.
- Quarterback Tino Sunseri was released from the team before Durant's injury, and returned to the team by week two.
- Quarterback Blake Sims was signed by the Roughriders in August, released in September, and brought back in October.
- Quarterback Keith Price returned to the team in July. He was first signed by the team in September 2014 after Durant went out with an elbow injury.
- Head coach Corey Chamblin and general manager Brendan Taman were fired Aug. 31.
- Bob Dyce was installed as the team's interim head coach and Jeremy O'Day as interim GM.
- The Riders were officially mathematically unable to reach playoffs by week 16 after a loss to Hamilton on Oct. 9.
- Quarterback Kevin Glenn was traded to Montreal Oct. 14.
- Kevin Glenn, Brett Smith, Keith Price and Tino Sunseri all stepped in to play quarterback for the Riders.
- They went on to post a dismal 2-15 record so far, with one game remaining.
