'Rise Up' event to raise awareness about abuse towards women

Rise Up is an event in Prince Albert created to raise awareness about the abuse towards women.

The event is mostly run out of Prince Albert, but will spread its message to Saskatoon and Regina as well

Rise Up is an event in Prince Albert created to raise awareness about the abuse towards women.

"If we can make one more woman feel safe, that is our goal," said Conrad Burns, one of the organizers of Rise Up. "If we create enough awareness, issues like this won't be swept under the rug and will be dealt with."

The event will run from May 19 to May 30. 

Here is the full schedule of events:

  • May 19 - Rise Up kickoff at Prince Albert City Hall will include a social media challenge - 10 a.m.
  • May 21 - Self-defence seminar at Kinsman Park - 6 p.m.
  • May 22 - Walk of Hope begins at Prince Albert City Hall - 9 a.m.
  • May 25 - Walk of Hope reaches Saskatoon City Hall - 9 a.m.
  • May 25 - Kinship Event at the Indian Metis Friendship Centre - 6 p.m.
  • May 29 - Walk of Hope reaches the Saskatchewan Legislature - 9 a.m.
  • May 30 - Rise Up windup at Kinsman Park with performers, food and information booths - 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Burns said about a quarter of women across Canada are abused.
