Richie Hall out as Roughriders defensive co-ordinator
Hall may be offered role within coaching staff
Richie Hall will not be back next season as defensive co-ordinator with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
"Even before we went to the playoffs I spoke to Richie and told him the options next year would either be me bringing in a new defensive coordinator or do it full-time myself next year," Roughriders head coach Corey Chamblin said. "It will either be one of those but that decision hasn't been made yet."
Chamblin said he, not Hall, called the defensive plays during the Western semi-final against Edmonton.
The Riders' head coach did not rule out Hall's return in a different capacity. Hall has a longstanding connection to the team, as a player and coach.
"From a humanistic perspective, disappointed but we all understand that it's the nature of the game," said Hall. "This is what we signed up for."
Coaching staff makeover
It's the latest shakeup in the coaching squad following a disappointing season for the Riders (10-8). The team announced last week its contract with offensive co-ordinator George Cortez will not be renewed.
Chamblin says he has five people in mind to replace Cortez. Including Paul Lapolice and Jacques Chapdelaine.
