Council approves 3.8% fare increase

Regina taxi fares to rise 3.8 per cent on March 24.

Regina City Council has approved a 3.8 per cent increase to taxi fares, effective March 24. It is the second increase to taxi fares in just over a year.

Here is the new fare structure:

  • $4 for the first 120 metres.
  • 25 cents for each additional 138 metres.
  • 25 cents for every 25 seconds while waiting under engagement, after the first five minutes.
  • $1.72 per out of town kilometre.
  • $36/hour for the hire of taxicabs by the hour.

The new fares follow a 5.2 per cent increase in 2014.

Under the new structure, a five-kilometre ride (roughly the distance from the Hotel Saskatchewan downtown to the Regina Airport) will cost $16.35 (compared to $15.77 currently).

A similar trip in Saskatoon (October 2014 rates) would cost $14.82.
