Man, 48, dies, shots reported in Regina neighbourhood
A 48-year-old man is dead and Regina police are conducting a homicide investigation after shots were reported early Thursday morning.
Police said they found the man dead at a home on the 1500 block of Robinson St. in the North Central area.
CBC News went to the house at 1557 Robinson and saw a shattered window and what appeared to be bullet holes in a window frame.
Officers went to that home after receiving a call around 3:40 a.m. CST about an injured man.
They were also called to an apartment on the 2200 block of Robinson in the Cathedral area to investigate reports of gunfire.
Police believe shots were fired at the 2200 block address.
When they arrived, they found the balcony doors of the apartment had been shattered. They believe the suspect or suspects fled the scene.
CBC News spoke with a resident of the neighbourhood, who did not want to be identified, who said the Cathedral area is normally very peaceful and that he was quite surprised something like this could happen.
Police did not draw a definite connection between the two incidents, but said officers were dispatched to the two addresses at the same time. They said the investigation is in its early stages.
"Treating it as a homicide investigation means there are measures taken around preserving and gathering potential evidence," Elizabeth Popowich, a spokeswoman for the Regina police, said. "We will have to wait for the autopsy before we have the answers to be able to confirm anything."
Popowich said the coroner has ordered an autopsy which is expected to take place Friday.
A resident of the neighbourhood in North Central, who lives in a home across the street from where the dead man was found, said he was not surprised over the incident.
"It's happened so many times around here you kind of get used to it," the man said. "You can't let it get to you ... you would go nuts and I refuse to feel that way."
Police have not disclosed the name of the victim, but said family has been notified.
