Regina will play host to the 2014 North American Indigenous Games.

The bid was put in by the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, Métis Nation of Saskatchewan, the province and the city.

The two-week event attracts up to 10,000 athletes, coaches, and fans.

The budget for the games is $10.35 million, with the province and Sport Canada each contributing $3.5 million.

The City of Regina is contributing $1.1 million. The rest will be raised through fees, sponsorships and fundraising.

Regina's bid won out over several other communities, including London, Ont. and Halifax, the province said in a news release.

The last time the event was hosted in Saskatchewan was 1993, when it was held in Prince Albert.
