Regina city council has approved up to $11 million for an International Trade Centre.

The total project is slated to cost $38.4 million, with $27 million coming from the provincial and federal governments and $5 million of private money.

The city's funding will come from the General Fund Reserve (GFR) over three years.

The International Trade Centre will replace older buildings on the west side of Evraz Place.

The buildings, which the city says have deteriorated, are used at the Canadian Western Agribition and the Farm Progress Show.

Construction will be managed by the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL).

Work is scheduled to begin after this year's Agribition and is expected to be completed by 2017.
