Regina bypass plans unveiled
Details for a planned bypass route around Regina are now available.
Land acquisitions have begun
Plans have been finalized for a bypass around Regina.
The route will go west and south of the city and reconnect with Highway 1 on the east side at Tower Road. Growing traffic volumes have led to concerns about safety and congestion.
Once construction starts, the province estimates the project could be completed in four years.
In the meantime, the province's Minister of Highways, Don McMorris, said there will be safety measures put in place.
"We know the volume of traffic is increasing," McMorris said Monday. "We've put in overhead lighting, we've done a number of measures to make these intersections safer."
McMorris also noted that land acquisitions have started for the bypass and assured landowners that they would be treated with respect.
