Plains Hotel demolition finally begins
The iconic Plains Hotel finally comes down.
After months of delays the iconic Plains Hotel in Regina is coming down.
The demolition comes more than two years after a hotel-condominium project was announced to replace it.
The hotel was expected to come down earlier this year, but encountered some problems with asbestos.
Demolition crews started to tear down the building Thursday morning closing off the sidewalk at the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue.
A 10-storey Hilton hotel and 26-floor condo complex, which will be the highest building in the city will go up in its place.
The project called Capital Pointe is supposed to cost about $100 million.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring.
