Party leaders in Sask. give last-minute campaign remarks
NDP leader Cam Broten was in Regina; Saskatchewan Party leader Brad Wall was in Moose Jaw
Saskatchewan Party Leader Brad Wall and NDP Leader Cam Broten gave their last campaign addresses on Saturday, two days before election day.
Wall chose to hold his last press conference in front of the new Moose Jaw, Sask. hospital, which was built while his party was in government. The Saskatchewan Party leader said his party's platform and campaign have been different this election than in the past because of tight fiscal times.
"This election we have even fewer promises in our platform," he said.
When Wall was asked how he is approaching the last couple days of the campaign while he holds a substantial lead in the polls, he said he's not taking anything for granted.
"It's not done," he said. "Political history in this country and in North America is rich with stories of last-minute changes."
Broten, speaking to reporters at a campaign office in northeast Regina, said he wasn't focusing on the polls.
"I'll leave the pundits, the journalists and those to make the predictions," he said. "What I'm focused on is working flat out between now and election day."
Also commenting on Saskatchewan's fiscal state, Broten criticized Wall for not releasing a budget before the election.
"If it was a good-news budget for the people of this province, it would have been rolled out with a lot of fanfare," he said.
Both leaders said they will continue to work until votes are cast on Monday. Polls will be open between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. CST that day.
