PARK(ing) day in Regina
The worldwide, annual event aims to generate discussion on use of public space
PARK(ing) Day, the worldwide annual event, took place Friday in Regina.
The event aims to generate discussion about the use of public space. Metered spaces along 11th and 12th Avenue in Regina's downtown district were transformed into temporary parks for public use.
One of the parking spots was converted to an art installation. The piece, Making Friends with Plants, was created by artist Terry Fidelak.
Fidelak, and those who wished to participate, made friendship bracelets and put them on plants. Those who made a bracelet for the plant could then take the plant home.
The concept is described as "a way to learn about and respond to the flora" on Fidelak's website.
The event is hosted by Regina Downtown Business Improvement District.
The event was started in San Francisco in 2005.
