Organic food products recall expanded due to salmonella threat
Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalling organic garlic powder sold in B.C., Quebec
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has expanded its recent recall of potentially salmonella-contaminated products to now include organic garlic powder sold in B.C. and Quebec.
The agency said shoppers should avoid organic garlic powder sold by Accommodation Bio in Quebec from Oct. 31, 2014 to March 17, 2015 as well as those from the bulk bins at Country Grocer in Salt Spring Island in B.C. from Jan. 1 to Jan. 14.
"Food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick," the agency warned in its initial release sent on Tuesday.
The CFIA said the potentially contaminated products from Simply Organic and Frontier brands have been sold nationally and online.
"Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections."
Frontier Co-op, which is based in Iowa and owns the Simply and Frontier lines, voluntarily initiated the recall on Monday.
