RCMP say Onion Lake Chief Wallace Fox has been charged with assault after investigating a complaint of an incident at a private home on the First Nation.

Police said they received the complaint on May 18 and confirm Fox has been charged with two counts of assault, as well as possession of a dangerous weapon, which they describe as a knife, and one count of uttering threats to damage property.

Fox was arrested without incident by Onion Lake RCMP on Monday and released on conditions.

He is scheduled to appear in Onion Lake provincial court on Dec.16, 2015 at 10 a.m. CST.

Fox is one of the chiefs who has taken the federal government to court over the First Nations Transparency Act. A federal court judge ruled recently that Ottawa should cease all legal efforts to force First Nations to publicly report financial information.
