A Regina police officer is facing a charge of assault causing bodily harm, relating to an arrest of a suspect in May, according to the police department.

The charge followed a seven-month investigation.

Police say the accused officer has five years of experience.

The alleged victim was a 44-year-old man who complained, on May 8, that he had been assaulted when he was arrested the day before.

Police said the officer who was the subject of their investigation was immediately reassigned to desk duties, when the allegation was made.

The case was investigated by the provincial body that oversees municipal police forces, the Provincial Complaints Commission.

After the charge was laid, police said the officer was placed on paid leave, pending the outcome of a hearing that must take place within 30 days.

Police say Robert K. Power, 40, faces one charge of assault causing bodily harm. He is set to appear in court on Jan. 17.
