Case of Regina woman charged with human smuggling adjourned in Estevan court

The case of a Regina woman charged with human smuggling was in court in Estevan, Sask., on Monday.
Michelle Omoruyi, 43, was arrested April 14 while driving a vehicle carrying nine foreign nationals near the North Portal border crossing.
She was charged with one count of human smuggling under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and one count of conspiracy to commit human smuggling.

The nine people in her vehicle were taken into custody by the Canada Border Services Agency and have since been released. They are claiming refugee status.
Her lawyer appeared by telephone.
Her husband Victor Omoruyi was arrested on the U.S. side of the border on the same night. He has been charged with harbouring and transporting an alien in the United States.
Michelle Omoruyi's matter was adjourned to June 12.
