Meadow Lake woman bunking with pets to help Humane Society
Jillian Doucet is spending her nights with cats and dogs to raise money for the shelter
Jillian Doucet is kicking off the holiday season with some not so silent nights.
Doucet, president of the Meadow Lake and District Humane Society, is spending her nights cooped up with the cats and dogs at the shelter in Meadow Lake, Sask.
"I get my bed together," Doucet said, describing her mattress made up of two dog beds duct taped together. "I pick a sleeping buddy, turn out the lights, hope for the best."
The goal of the unorthodox sleepover is to raise funds for the volunteer-run shelter. Her goal is to raise $5,000.
There are currently 11 dogs and 20 cats in the shelter. Most nights, the animals interrupt her sleep with a lot of face-licking and feet-sniffing.
"The dogs haven't been too bad," Doucet said. "I started sleeping with cats starting on Saturday night and that was a terrible idea because they're worse than the dogs. They're up all night. Then they sleep. Then they want to crawl on your head and drool on your face."
This is the third year Doucet has slept at the Humane Society to raise money.
"It takes a lot of money to keep on operation like ours running," she said. "I just thought I'd do this crazy little fundraiser to help out."
