It's bug season and experts say dragonflies are creating a lot of buzz in Saskatchewan this year.

There are more dragonflies than usual this year and Scott Hartley, provincial insect specialist, said it's because of all the rain the province got this spring.

The insects are known for eating mosquitoes, but it's too early in the season to tell how much of an impact they are having, said Hartley.

"It'll certainly help keep the mosquito population down," he said. "But certainly mosquitoes can be in very high number and have been breeding very well in the moist conditions we have too."

Dragonflies are also know to eat small insects such as flies and wasps.

This is the second year in a row there has been a dragonfly boom in the province.
