In the past few years, the ante has been upped as more and more households have brought in 'Elf on the Shelf' — a magical creature that moves around each night, assigned by Santa to watch over the home and ensure kids stay on the right side of that all-important naughty or nice scale. (CBC)

Every year around this time, debates begin to brew over whether Christmas characters like Santa Claus — and more recently, elves on shelves — are harmless or something more sinister.

However, #ElfonaShelf seems to prove that many parents, schools and businesses have found it an effective tool for keeping naughty behaviour at bay.
