Listeria concerns lead to Costco recalling products in Western Canada
Organic Butternut Squash, Organic Vegetable Medley being recalled in B.C., Alta., Sask., Man.
Costco is expanding a food recall warning in Western Canada to include additional products.
The company said it is recalling Organic by Nature brand frozen Organic Butternut Squash, and Organic Vegetable Medley due to a possible Listeria contamination. The products were sold in Costco stores in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

Costco said consumers should not eat the recalled products.
The affected products which were sold in Canada are:
- Organic Butternut Squash (frozen). Size: 2 kg. Best by dates: From April 26, 2016 to April 26, 2018. UPC: 8 46358 00067 1
- Organic Vegetable Medley (frozen). Size: 2.5 kg. Best by dates: From April 26, 2016 to April 26, 2018. UPC: 8 46358 00062 6
On April 23, the recall included Organic by Nature frozen peas, corn and other vegetables due to possible contamination with Listeria.
There have not been any reported cases in Canada. However, illnesses have been reported in the United States related to the recalled products.
People are asked to check for the recalled products in their homes. They should either be returned to the store where they were purchased or thrown away.
Anyone who thinks they have become sick from eating the recalled products are advised to contact a doctor.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. For pregnant women, it can also cause premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth.
Severe cases of Listeria can cause death.
