It's a landmark day for football fans — the official groundbreaking for Regina's new football stadium will be held Monday morning.
PCL Construction is building the $278-million replacement for Mosaic Stadium in Evraz Place a few hundred metres west of the existing building.
It's expected the future home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will open in 2017.
It's an open-air, 33,000-seat facility (expandable to 40,000) financed largely through taxpayers, with ticket-buyers and corporate sponsors also contributing.
For several months, crews have been preparing the ground and installing infrastructure at the site near the corner of Saskatchewan Drive and Elphinstone Street.
Now, construction on the stadium itself will begin.
