Long-running CBC Radio One program The Afternoon Edition is getting a new permanent host, Peter Mills, and a new name: The 306.

The freshly renamed show will have a focus on the Saskatchewan of today — more urban, more curious and a little bit younger.

Since 1947, Saskatchewanians all over the province could be reached by dialling area code 306 for long-distance calls. The goal of The 306 is to continue that reach, expanding to even more urban, rural and remote areas.

Looking back

Since the 1990s, The Afternoon Edition has been a mainstay in the weekday routines of many listeners — a two-hour blend of regional and national information, news, weather and sports. On Dec. 15, 2023 previous host Garth Materie hosted his final show before retiring.

What's ahead

The 306 will connect you to communities across the province. It will bring you the stories of Saskatchewan people showing great spirit, and will give you a glimpse into what's been happening across the province and around the world.

New host Peter Mills is passionate about Saskatchewan. Its people. Its stories. Its music.

Meet Peter Mills

Eager to see if he can collect every SEGA Genesis game ever made and committed to helping Saskatchewan musicians hear their music on their local CBC, Peter Mills is always up for a challenge.

Peter will continue to bring his curiosity to the Saskatchewan of today — our new culture, our growing cities, and the experience of winding down your workday and starting your evening.

"Peter is deeply curious and loves to share the experiences of the people who make this place unique," said CBC Saskatchewan managing editor Paul Dornstauder. "We are looking forward to Peter bringing you the stories of this ever-evolving province."

The 306 can be heard on weekdays from 4-6 p.m. on CBC Radio One on 102.5 FM (Regina), 94.1 FM (Saskatoon) or 540 AM across the province. It's also available live online and on-demand on the CBC Listen app.
