Saskatoon spent about $65 million on roads, water main and sidewalks during the 2021 construction season.

Terry Schmidt, general manager of transportation and construction, said in a news conference Monday that this year's weather has been good for construction work.

The work on College Drive and the rehabilitation of the Circle Drive overpass at Eighth Street are some of the projects completed as part of this year's plan. Schmidt said the city were able to finish all projects within budget this year regardless of price fluctuations.

"Dry summer weather really helped keep our projects on schedule and some of the major ones even wrapped up early. Warmer temperatures stretching into October has also been a huge benefit."

Road construction also took place following water main replacements in neighbourhoods like Caswell Hill and Nutana.

Schmidt said that about 22 kilometres of water mains and sanitary sewer mains have been replaced or rehabilitated.

The pandemic did not have much impact on the construction work, Schmidt said.
