CBC's Morning Edition spotlight on Regina's Eastview Neighbourhood
Community Spotlight: Getting to know Regina's Eastview Neighbourhood
The Morning Edition is shining a spotlight on Regina's Eastview neighbourhood.
Eastview is in Regina's northeast. It's a little neighbourhood, less than one square kilometre, nestled in a mainly industrial area.
It's bordered by the Ross Industrial Lands to the north of Ross Avenue, the Ross Industrial Lands to the south of the CPR rail line, Ross Industrial Lands to the east of McDonald Street, and the Warehouse District to the west of Winnipeg Street.
Denis Simard is the Manager of the Eastview neighbourhood Centre. He lives just 10 houses away from the centre. Since Eastview is surrounded by industrial area, he says "you get the impression you are in a little village in the middle of the rest of the city." Simard says a lot of people know each other and it makes for a good sense of community just like in Gravelbourg where Simard grew up.

Simard and his wife live in a house built by her grandfather. "The people who are here are deeply rooted within the neighbourhood. A lot of the business owners live here too," Simard says.
This week the Morning Edition will introduce you to some of the people and places that make Eastview unique, including:
- Getting to know the family who run Ross Food Centre, a cafe and convenience store that's been in the neighbourhood for 50 years.
- Meeting the Hammoud family who run the popular Amado's pita bakery and Lebanese restaurant.
- Finding out more about the huge 62-unit Habitat for Humanity housing project happening on the former Haultain school site
- Finding out how locals cope with the trains that pass through the community multiple times per day.
- Getting to know the people who run the community garden, just a stone's throw from the St. Paul's Senior Centre
