The World Women's Curling tournament is set to begin in Swift Current, Sask., as the newly crowned Team Canada from Calgary takes on Denmark for its first match on Saturday.

Chelsea Carey and her team, which won the national curling championship in February, will make their first attempt for the world title at 2 p.m. CST. Canada last won the tournament in 2008 under Jennifer Jones in Vernon, B.C.

The championships continue all week and come to a head on Sunday, March 27. Twelve teams from around the world compete, including teams from Europe, North America and Asia.

If Carey wins a world championship medal in Swift Current, her team gains one-of-nine women's berths in the 2017 Olympic trials.

Officials said there are still some tickets available to games this week.
