A 12-year-old boy who was swimming in a water hole near Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. has died, the RCMP says.



A 12-year-old boy who was swimming in a water hole near Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. has died, the RCMP says.

The child, from a farm northwest of the town, was reported missing and presumed drowned shortly before 3 p.m. CST on Sunday.

He had been swimming with his siblings west of the farm when he became distressed and attempts to assist him failed, the RCMP said.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to the scene but were unable to locate the child.

The RCMP dive team continued the search until it got dark and then resumed the search Monday morning.

The child's body was found around 10 a.m., close to where he was last seen by witnesses. 

The coroner has been called and the matter remains under investigation, police said.
