More than twice as many people vote in advance polls compared to 2011 federal election
Advance polling details are in for Saskatchewan and the numbers are way up.
According to Elections Canada, more than 95,000 Saskatchewan residents voted ahead of time this year — more than double the number for the 2011 federal election.
In 2011, 44,779 people voted at advance polls in Saskatchewan. This year, 95,829 people voted early.
Elections Canada attributes part of that increase to the extra voting day that was added. Sunday advance polling was offered for the first time this year.
There were big increases in the urban ridings, especially Saskatoon-West with more than 10,000 ballots cast in that riding alone.
