A designer from Regina is hoping his company's tiny home design will catch on.

John Robinson is co-owner of Robinson Residential, a design company in Regina. His design for a tiny home, dubbed "The Dragonfly," includes only 160 square feet.

The company managed to fit in windows, two sets of French doors, two skylights, and a gas fireplace. He said it has all the usual amenities too — a kitchen, living room area, bathroom and a loft for a spare bed.

"We have designed this so you don't feel like you're crammed into a box," Robinson told CBC Saskatchewan's Blue Sky.

He says there are also decks that flip out so you can enjoy the great outdoors.

"It's all about trying to find ways of building things smaller but still be able to do all the living you'd normally do."

Robinson said he and his company worked on the design for a fun challenge. He's not sure if they will build the homes, sell kits or sell the designs for those who want to build it themselves.

He said he's taking the design to a tiny home convention in Portland in November. The homes are gaining traction on the west coast and especially in Texas.

Robinson admitted tiny homes can be a bit of a tough sell in Saskatchewan.

"Where do you put the snowmobile suit and the heavy boots and all that? It's definitely different than in Texas."
