Saskatoon movie theatre licensed for lounge service
Wine columnist James Romanow offers suggestions on what drink might fit with current movies. A Saskatoon theatre, the Cineplex, has a VIP lounge and is licensed to serve alcohol.
It is new to the city and includes a full bar, reclining seats and food service.
Romanow, who also goes by the name Dr. Booze, told CBC Radio's Afternoon Edition host Craig Lederhouse that he would likely select the beverage that suits him most, but if he were to suggest a drink — based on the film — some movies lend themselves to specific choices.
"If you're watching Sense and Sensibility you want to be drinking either brandy or burgundy," Romanow said. "That's just how it goes."
Here are six current movies and Romanow's suggestions:
- The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (part of The Lord of the Rings series of films): Mead (although ale would be OK too).
- Unbroken (An epic drama that follows the life of Olympian and war hero Louis "Louie" Zamperini who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.): Campari.
- Inherent Vice (A crime drama about a private detective): Beer (must be in cans).
- Into the Woods (A modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales): A Chablis or anything you drank as a youth, like Baby Duck.
- Night at the Museum - Secret of the Tomb (a sequel with Ben Stiller and the late Robin Williams): A California Zinfandel
- The Gambler (a dark drama starring Mark Wahlberg): Whiskey (on the rocks).
